Today the reality is that many families are faced with many frustrating and time consuming barriers to receiving social services. Many families find themselves lining up to get a lot of paperwork. They complete the paperwork and then find out that they don’t qualify. Other families can not afford registration fees for their children’s recreational activities. Income should not be a barrier to the development of children’s aptitudes and talents. Finally low income pressures are proven to affect educational performance. Income should not be a barrier to academic achievement but unfortunately it is.
Often these barriers to social support cause low income families to give up and loose hope and become disenfranchised with the system. With over 10 years of experience in not for profit social services, we experience these type of situations frequently.
Breaking down barriers will challenge these barriers that these families are facing in any way that our resources will allow. Our program objectives focus in four key areas; recreational subsidy, counselling and support services, tutoring and scholarships and bursaries.
"We must try to always remember, that our children are the foundation of our community's future success"
